Rio de Janeiro

Think of Rio : images of smiling, warm, sultry Brazilians, caipoeira in the streets, tropical music filling the air, having a refreshing caiparinha on the beach, balmy nights feasting on traditional dishes of feijoada or fresh seafood moqueca, heading to the clubs for seductive dancing to the invigorating, intoxicating rhythms of samba and pagode until dawn. Rio on any given day is a passionate, robust place to experience; at night, one of the world's most beautiful cities surges with energy.

We'll tour the city and see some of the famous sites. You'll begin to understand how fanatic Brazilians are about soccer when we visit Maracana, one of the largest stadiums in the world. We'll take the tram up to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain and hike some of the short trails inside the park. We may see some tamarins (small monkeys) and other wildlife that inhabit this city park. Another tram will take us to the top of Corcovado , the great Christ statue that overlooks and protects the pulsing city below. We'll go to Tijuca forest, well-preserved lowland Atlantic rainforest. Atlantic rainforests are unique in the kinds of species they house and are only found on the Eastern coast of Brazil . During our days in Rio , we'll have plenty of time to enjoy an integral part in the life of every Carioca (someone from Rio ), the exotic beaches, complete with the colorful, swarthy Cariocas.

In the evening, we'll stroll through the streets of Ipanema and dine in one of the many cafes. There's no reason to not dive into the source of energy in Rio , the nightlife. We'll find ourselves a jazz club or perhaps a dance club to immerse in the captivating music of Brazil .
