Day 3 Sailing, sailing… we'll embark on the Sem Destino (Without Destination) and the Sexta-feira (Friday) for an all day expedition on the South Atlantic . The peaceful and tranquil voyage on the sailboat will intoxicate and sooth you. Our destination will be the remote beach village of Bahia dos Golfinos ( Dolphin Bay ). The bay is appropriately named for there are frequent sightings of dolphin pods in these waters. The route takes us past 3 Portuguese forts that protected the inlet from Spanish invasion. We'll stop at the island fort to explore and learn about the colonization of the region. We'll eat lunch on the beach and relax in the sun, no need to rush before the journey back. We can relax on the beach or take in some jazz tonight at a club overlooking the lagoon. Day 4 We'll head off the island today and into the foothills of the Serra Geral to the Rio Cubutão for some class III and IV white water rafting. The water on the river is clear and will be refreshing in the Summer sun. The descent takes us through the heart of the state park, Tabuleiro. The park is the largest preserve in the state and one of the best preserved pieces of Sub-tropical Atlantic rainforest in the South. After our descent of the river, we will tour a cachaçaria, a distillery of the national alcohol, cachaça. We will walk through the process and will have an opportunity to sample some of the handcrafted wares. When we get back to island, we will hike a trail on the West side of the lagoon. The trail goes through Atlantic rainforest and through an Açiorn village. The Açiorns were the first settlers in the region from Portugal and the village has been there since the mid-1600's.
