Day 1

You will depart the U.S. for an over night flight to São Paulo , Brazil .

Day 2

You arrive before mid-day and catch connecting flight to Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina. You will be met by a guide that will transport you to a pousada, a family run Brazilian bed and breakfast. The pousada is in Lagoa de Conceição, where we will be staying for the next few nights.

The city of Florianópolis spans the mainland and an island. The island has over 50 diverse beaches, some boast to be the most beautiful in Brazil . The pousada, is situated between a large brackish water lagoon in the middle of the island and dunes that roll into the sea to the East. The rest of this afternoon, we can choose from a variety of activities to take advantage of our surroundings, try your courage at para-gliding off of cliff updrafts or may be sand-surfing on the dunes. We can head to a number of nearby beaches, Joaquina, known for its international surfing competitions, or Praia Mole, a cove surrounded by granite rocks and successional dune vegetation.

Since we're on an island, tonight we'll dine on traditional dishes of the region featuring fresh seafood at Casa do Chico , accompanied by some caiparinhas, featuring cachaça, the national alcohol of Brazil , mixed with crushed limes and sugar. Afterwards, for those interested, we'll head off to the club, La Pedreira, for some traditional forró music. Forró is a style of music from the Northeast. The people there dance the forró to keep themselves warm on cooler Winter nights. Whether you want to dance or not, it will be extremely difficult to keep your body from moving and getting involved with the local crowd, gyrating and effortlessly gliding around the dance floor.
